Last weekend, the LDS' church had the Semiannual General Conference. Every year, we have that conference twice, in April and October. This is an opportunity to support our leaders. It is very important for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Later day Saints. We could hear God's prophet, President Gordon B. Hinckley. There were great speakers. I took notes from some speeches that I thought would be useful in my life.

One of these speeches that I liked was by Elder Todd Christofferson, a member of the Presidency of the Quorum of the Seventy, who talked about redemption of dead and testimony of Christ during the Saturday morning Conference session. Speaking of vicarious work, he quoted President Gordon B. Hinckley. He says, "I think that vicarious work for the dead more nearly approaches the vicarious sacrifice of the Savior Himself than any other work of which I know. It is given with love, without hope of compensation, or repayment or anything of the kind. What a glorious principle." It is a work of love for the dead. Baptism for the dead isn't against Christ's law. Also, Elder Christofferson asked why we should be baptized for the dead. He said that they live today as spirits, and shall live again. By doing it, we give them an opportunity to accept the gospel in the next life if they choose to do so. In my opinion the vicarious work is a great opportunity to help other people that who didn't have the opportunity to be baptized in this earthly life.

Baptism for the dead not only helps our ancestors, but it helps strengthen our own testimonies. When we are baptized for the dead, we testify of five things: Christ's resurrection, the infinite reach of his Atonement, that he is the sole source of salvation, that he has established the conditions for salvation and that he will come again.

Also, he quoted what President Joseph Smith said, "The earth will be smitten with a curse unless there is a welding link between the fathers and the children, upon some subject or other- and behold what is that subject? It is the baptism for the dead." I think the plan of Salvation isn't valid without this link.

Elder Cristofferson also testified that Christ is the resurrection and life. He died for everyone. He invites everyone to come into him, "Christ is the way, the truth, and the life…" In my opinion, Christ expects that we should do our part in this work as our testimony in Christ's victory over death.

Elder Christtofferson was not the only one who spoke about testimony in Christ, also, other speakers like Elder Morrison and Elder Dunn spoke with such power about this subject. Elder Morrison of the Quorum of the Seventy invited all who want to know who Christ is to "come and see". Also, he promised us, "You will find him and see him in his true character as the risen, redeeming Savior of the world." When I heard that, I started to think in Christ's power. He created everything, and gave it to us. However, many people don't believe in Christ and in his power. The only thing these people need to have is the desire to know who Christ is, and they shall know about him.

Also, he testified about Christ's Atonement. It means that Christ paid for the price of the transgressions of the world. How powerful are these words! When I heard that, I thought about Christ 's mercy, and how much he loves us. He gave his life for everyone. We just need to come and we can see that he is the truth and life.

The other speaker that impressed me was Elder Dunn. His words resounded in my mind when he said, "I know God lives! I know he lives! I know he lives!" These are simple words, but very powerful. It made me think how wonderful it is to know that God lives and loves us so much. How can people exist that don't believe it, when everything testifies that Christ is the Creator and the Redeemer of the world? I pray for those people that they can know the truth of God as Elder Dunn knows, and as I know.

We had more speakers that testified about Christ and his life. However, Elder Christofferson, Elder Morrison, and Elder Dunn were my favorites. We had a great opportunity to hear the leaders telling what Christ wants from us. Now, we should practice everything that we learned this weekend, so we can live with Christ again.
