Sometimes you need to choose between eat in a restaurant or in your house. I like eat in both places, but sometimes I prefer eat at home, because you can choose the food that you prefer and to prepare your food you buy the better things, and some times restaurants don’t buy the best things to prepare or you don’t know who prepare the food, maybe they have dirty hands or if the kitchen is clean or if they don’t take care to make the food or wherever.

Sometimes is good eat in a restaurant, because you don’t have time to cook or you don’t want do it, or sometimes forget go to the supermarket and don’t have food, or you want eat with your friends but you don’t want cook for many people or only you want eat something different or you want that somebody cook for you. Sometimes you have special occasions, and you want a really good food, and you don’t cook very well, and in this case you can go to a restaurant.

In my family we always go to a restaurant when is a birthday of somebody in the family, but we prefer eat at home because we know that my mom take care when she cooks for us, and she cooks with all her love for us, and eat at home always is more healthy. Well it depends in which house!

For me, every part or room in my house is important, because you have a story in all of these places, but the most important room in my house, of course, is my room. My bedroom.

I think that my bedroom is the most important room in my house, because almost all the time when I am home I stay there. Sometimes I am watching T.V or listening music or talking with my friends by phone or studying or sometimes crying or reading or when my friends came to visit me always we are in my bedroom talking and listening our favorite music.

My bedroom is like a book, yes; this sounds funny, but is true, because my bedroom has many many stories, about what? About all my life, moments when I am happy or when I am angry, when I cry for be sad or happy, about conversations with my mom and my sister or my friends.

My bedroom has many kind of experience, and I really enjoy being in my bedroom. It is very relaxing for me.

Dear ELC Executive Council:

I am Gabriela Arrevillaga. I am a student here in the ELC. The reason for this letter is to tell you that you are doing a very good job in the ELC, actually in the program of ELC.

I really think that all the program here is very good. Classes are very interesting, and almost all teachers are very goods and they are very patients, kind and they a great sense of humor. They always prepare their classes, and almost all of these classes are ver goods and interesting.

Another thing that I like I the ELC is the library, actually all SASC, because in this place you can found all things that you need to do your homework, and you don’t need go to other place to found things to do it.

The last part that I like about ELC are rules. I like rules about honor code and something like that, and I really like the rule that you are not allowed to talk in your native language.

Some articles talk about the violence and the cosecuences that the violence has. We can find violence in may places. We can fin it in houses, schools, public places or wherever.

The articles say that the violence can be or can become a crime and a lot of the time a very bad crime, like to kill somebody. Many times the violence is learning with examples, like a child who shoots to his classmate, but the shooter boyís father was in jail for many crimes. Many times the violence is learning by the T.V too by violence and rude programs.

The Utah council for crime prevention gives us an idea to cut off crimes, he said: "Turn off the violence day", and I think that his is a big beginning.

Jeff Harris said that children learn from older people, because if we watch violent movies in front of them, or if we buy them violent video games they will do the same, and I have the same opinion that the example that we give to children is very important, and a very big influence to them, so we need to start having responsibilities about this important situation.

For me gratitude is being grateful to a person who did or does something important for you. When I feel gratitude for somebody it is because this person did something for you, but something really important.

For example I feel gratitude for my Heavenly Father, because he gave me the opportunity to come to earth, and because he gave me the opportunity to have his gospel, and to have a wonderful family, and also because he gave me the opportunity to stay with them forever. I feel grateful for him because he gave me a body and intelligence to be tested and to be better.

I feel gratitude for my parents and brothers, because they love me, and because my parents always take care of me, they give me the opportunity to be better, and the opportunity to know the gospel, and they always teach me right things trough their good examples.

In general I feel gratitude for my Heavenly Father for giving me the opportunity to be in the earth, and for giving me a wonderful family who loves me, and helps me all the time.

In your life you can lean many things. They could be by bad or good situations, but always you can learn something that almost always is something good.

Sometimes you can have a really bad situation, but I think that it is good because you can change your mind or you opinion. But some times you don't really have a bad experience and it is the opposite; you can have a good experience and you can learn and donít be hurt.

Some times people tell you their own experiences and they tell you that, because maybe they can help you with their examples and because they donít want you to be hurt. But sometimes you donít pay attention and you need to have your own experiences to learn the lesson.

In my life I have been learning many things, but some of the most important are 1) always respects other people opinion and things, and are polite. 2) Never tell lies. 3) If you don't want somebody to hurt you, never hurt other people. 4) Always try to be patient. Being inpatient could give you some troubles.

Dear Mr. Isaak:

I am very glad that I chose the BYU ELC to be my first school in the US, because you are a good teacher in here; you gave me the good memories in every ELC activities. For all the foreign students, we know we need study hard in the English skills, but those activities not only help us to practice English well, but also give us more chances to know the American culture. This is a good way to adapt the strange environment.

It gives me more stress to study overseas. ELC has many homework everyday. That is hard for all students, but for our Chinese group, we are always waiting for every activity that you sponsor to us. You have abundant facial expressions and body language. You are so interesting and make us laughing every time.

You and those BYU activities share us more chances to know new cultures and meet new friends form the world. I enjoy that and hope we can join more activities in next semester. Thanks for your kind and work hard!

Dear Confused:

I know it is very hard for you to decide what you need to do now. I have the experience with yours. It made me crying everyday, because I didn’t know how to do was good for me or other people. To make the decision is not easy for everyone, But I think you can do well by yourself.

If you feel this guy is a good person, and he is nice to you. I suggest you can give yourselves some time and continue to understand each other. You will know him more than before. Don’t scare to tell him what you are worry about now. I think if he love you, he will understand what you want to improve! It is a good time to test for his patient and love!

I’m sure this man is a good man, but you can give you more choices. Maybe the next man will be the best man in your future. Don’t hurry to make a decision when you don’t consider yet

I think that in a game it is very important to win, but also I think it is important to just take part in the game. I would like to give a personal example.

When I was twelve years old I always played basketball. When I was just learning. Every time I would play the best I could. I had many friends that played very well. They played in a superior league of basketball in my city. They played on important teams, they always asked me to play. They always wanted to win, and never like to lose. I learned many things from them. Such as how to win. I continued playing. I played in many teams and championships and I always wanted to win. When I lost I felt very bad. When I was twenty two years old. I started to understand that the objective of playing wasn't just winning. Every day that passed I understood more, because I started to teach to my younger brother. He was thirteen years old, and he just starting to play. He learned well and very fast. Then I started training with him and a team of boys. They learned very fast, but still it took a lot of time. After I started to play with people that had just started to play. It was very difficult for me I was used to playing with people that played very well.

After a few year maybe three. I understood that everyone doesnít have the some virtues and qualities, and that people that know how to play to should try to teach people that donít know play. Also I like to play with people that know to play, because I can teach them.

We always play to win but if we lose it is okay, because we always have a lot of fun.

I believe that it is very important that everyone tell the truth. I believe that there are many reasons to be honest, the most important reasons for me are that a like just leads to more lies, and that lying brings suspicion. When a person has the habit of lying, this person always has many problems. A person that lies canít be my friend.

I had a Peruvian co-worker. He has always lying. One time, he lied to our boss. He told him that he had done all he estimates and for our boss and our boss made a note of this information. The next day, the boss called him, because he wanted a explanation of some result. My co-worker still had not finished the work. He tried to lie again, but he mistook everything. My boss asked him about the result again. He was very angry. When he heard all truth of that had happened. He fired to my co-worker.

This situation taught me very much. I should always tell the truth. I believe that if my co-worker had told the truth, the boss would not have fired him.

I think that friends are the most important influence, because we are talking about young adults, and young adults are with their friends almost always. I remember once when I had a friend that was the kind of person that always had a lot of influence from her mother, because she always consulted her mother before making any choice. For example when she loved someone, she told her mother how the experiences with her prospective boyfriend were, and she asked her mother each day when she needed her advice. However, one day when she was with her friends, a girl and a guy, she was confused, because she didn’t know if in fact she loved her boyfriend. While her friends were there with her, they convinced her that she ought to break up with her boyfriend. She took the friends’ advice, and she did it such as they told her to. When the night came, she regretted that she did it.

I knew to this girl, and for this reason I think that when we are with one person for a long time, it’s too easy to receive a big influence from them. Some friends told me once that our parents lived in another time older than our time. Sometimes parents want to do things like they were done a long time ago.

Justice is the perfect word. I’d really want to change a lot of things, however I think that if the justice in my hometown changed, everything would change. Why? Because is a beautiful and impressive city. It’s the most important city in my country. The majority of Mexicans live there. There is less poverty than in other states of Mexico, but this poverty is because some people have power in the government. This thing is stopping the progress of the nation, because they are stealing a lot of money for themselves. This is for me injustice, because this money is from the nation and is for its progress too. I believe that the people know about it, and the day is coming when there’ll be justice in Mexico, so everything will be able to change.

My name Jociene Felipe, This is my first semester at ELC and I decided to write to you because has two things that I liked so much and I really want to tell you.

The ELC, has a good computer program that I have never seen. I think the computer program will help us to learn read faster and write better. So many school has a computer but doesn't have goods programs.

The next thing that I like is speaking only English inside the ELC. Some people learn English listening, watching TV but doesn't have good pronunciation and don't speak fluently because don't have practice and speak a lot of own language.

In our lives we are always playing games, because life is a game when you loose or win. Games are important instruments to learn, add knowledge and to take decisions.

Games teach us to learn good or bad things and both of them. The good things are when the game teaches us positive things that we can use in our lives. The bad things are when the game teaches us negative things and that could prejudice your life. Games can teach us bad or good things at the same time; in this case you need to separate very carefully what is bad and what is good to improve your life.

Games help to add knowledge because games teach us about history, things and economics. Some games come with history knowledge and that helps us to learn very quickly about history. In our vocabulary we have a lot of things to learn and games helps us to memorize so fast the meanings. Economics is very important in our lives and games teach us about how the economics work.

Games help in take our own decisions, because we can do quickly, sure and right. Our decisions will be very quickly when we practice games. Also we are sure in our decisions because when you play games you need to be very sure what you are doing. Decisions will be right because when you are playing games you learn to be right in your steps.

Playing games taught me a lot in my life, I am able to talk about any thing because I learn a lot of things in games.

In the history of the humanity, men always tried to have more materials things that they had. One reason was their effort to discover new things. Another was their codicia. The last was to have more material things to show their power to the other that don’t have. Those characteristics made the men one person with constant challenges.

The reason to discover new things was to affront challenges such as conformism, comfort and education. Conformism was always left behind too because men needed to improve their tool to get more things. Comfort to find new things to make more comfortable the way to live and Education principal element to achieve the advances of the technology to get the last two things. Those elements were to improve the life better.

Men learned that since the beginning of the history about conformism, he couldn’t be in the same place, grow, settle and improvisation was the constantly motivation. Grow was the key word for men no admit the conformism this mean that men always should be in constantly growing. Settle new lands and treasures were the way to get more things and improvisation was the most important tool to achieve their goals. The way to change and change the way to live was the focus to get more than people have.

Showing the power was the prefer thing that men could do it, proud, dominium and force were the principal things that men loves. Proud is the way that men always like to have because he is the best and he can do anything. Dominium is the way to get more things the others be economical or financial and force was the way to command ones to others as a symbol of the power. Men likes control any situation in the world, therefore he is always looking for new things.

Worth is synonymous of the power and people in the world will be looking for new ways to get that. In the History’s men the wars were the way to get more economical and financial goods, many people died for that. The power is something strong in the men’s mind because it’s the way to have the control on the others, thus people could get a lot of things to grow and grow. One of the most important ways to get that in the last times, besides of the wars, was the international trade some countries became more powerful than others.

I have been thinking about how can be successful. I was talking with friends about that, and some of them think that you need to have money to be successful. I think that people in the world can be successful such a rich or not, because depend of their knowledge, willing and education. Some people in the world achieve their goals when they really trust in themselves.

Knowledge is very important in mankind because depend what you know? How to do it? and how to be ready to any situation?. People need to know what is the best and what is the worst because with this difference they can achieve the rightenouses. Besides they need to do how to do the things what is the best way? To be ready for any situation is very important because life is not easy. Life needs to be observed as a good thing.

Willing is the capacity in the lead people around you as work, family and friends. In our job we need to work in-group because that is the way to achieve the success. Family is a good willing to show as a leader to our children and our husband the way to love. F rinds are very important to live in community because we no always depend of our family, but the good friends. People around you can help so much to resolve your problems.

Education is the most important that god gave us because that is the way to learn, to apply, and to help our nation and people is very interesting to understand such as language, customs and beliefs. Apply the things that you learn in the things that you do will be helpful to achieve good overcomes. Education is so much important to help the people the best way and actually our country at all. Education has lead countries to be more successful than others do.

No only people that earn money in world can be successful because as was explained above the most important is how you can use your knowledge to be successful. I have some examples that can show poor people that became successful.

In the world: Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi and a lot more. Everybody can be successful in the world is no just money.

When a person moves to a new place, there are many decisions that he or she must make. In my case, two things that I wonder about moving to a new place are location and the number of rooms. Good location and enough rooms for my needs could make my life more comfortable.

In my opinion, location is the most important thing about moving. Some aspects of location that I consider important are safety, and nearness to my job. Also, schools and stores being close to where I live is important, too.

First, the place needs to be a safe place. I don't want to move to a place where I need to lock my door all the time, or where I cannot walk by myself at night. Every day, we watch on the news a lot of cases of violence. I don't want to be exposed to violence, or exposed my family.

Second, the place needs to be near my job. Then, I don't need to wake up early to drive for 40 minutes like I did last year to get my job. It caused me a lot of stress. Every morning, the traffic was terrible. Then, most of the time, I took a bus to get there. It was about 30 minutes more than driving my car. My only relief was to sleep for little more on the bus. On rainy days, the transit got worse, so my travel was about 2 hours. I always felt tired, even before starting to work. This is why the job needs to be near my house.

Other things that I consider important in regards to location are that the schools and stores are close to where I live, too. The school must be near, so that my children can walk to get there. They won't need to depend of the bus, and, they won't have any excuse to be late at school. The store should be near, too. For example, I start to cook dinner, and I don't have something to make it. Then, I can run to the store and buy it without spending a lot of time.

Another thing that I wonder about moving is the number of rooms in the new house. A house needs to be comfortable for the people who live there. I like to have space to put everything that is mine away. My family's house has three bedrooms, one bedroom for every two people. I share my bedroom with my sister Giselle. In the being, it was hard, because we thought that it was a small room, and we didn't have enough space to put our things away. Sometimes, I found her books on my bed, or she had my clothes on hers. Also, the fact that we shared a bedroom caused us to start picking up things from each other without asking. Now, we don't have problems anymore with this. My sister and I resolved the problem about sharing the same bedroom. We respect each other space. She doesn't take anything that is mine without authorization, and neither I do. If we were to move to a new house, it should have 4 bedrooms. It means that we could have an extra bedroom for visitors.

Location and the numbers of rooms are things that are important to me when I think about choosing a new place to live.

In my opinion, parents are the best teachers for their children, even more than any successful academic teacher in the world. Teachers at school can help children with their formal education, but these same teachers are limited in what they can teach about love and life.

Parents start to teach their children in their earliest years. First of all, they teach about love. Every single expression of love from them makes the difference in their child's life. For example, my youngest sister is an adopted child. Most of her life, she lived with us. In her earliest years, she didn't have anyone who could express some love to her. Her parents didn't care about her. When she had an accident, they left her in the hospital and never went back to take care of her. She stayed there for five months. She became a part of my life when she was almost two years old. For the last ten years, my parents have treated her as their own child. However, there is something that is missing in her life: the love when she was just a baby. Now, she is eleven years old, and we can see in her acts that she wants more and more love that she missed as a baby. This supports my opinion that parents are the best teachers and care givers.

Second, children learn best by example. Teachers tell them what is right and what they need to do. Parents show them what is right with their example and how to do it. For example, in my family, there are seven children. Each one is different from the others, but all the children have something in common. It is "be honest". My parents as teachers taught us that we need to be honest, but we couldn't see how schoolteachers lived their lives. It was completely different with my parents, especially my father. We are poor, but I have never seen my father trying to take advantage of someone. All the things that we have are all the credit of my parents. It makes it difficult for any one of us to try to do something that isn't honest.

The time in our life that we learn important things is in our childhood. Those things make a difference for the rest of our life. Most of the time of our childhood is spent with our parents. I could use more reasons to support my opinion, but I think that love and example are the best things to teach someone, and most parents have those qualities.

Dear ELC Executive Council:

I am an ELC student. I am from China; I have studied in the ELC almost three semesters. I feel this is a good school. First, the school has good discipline. Second, there are good teachers and good students. I feel safe and happy, I learned a lot, but I have one suggestion tell to you.

I wish the school computer lab was open on Saturday, Because every student is from different countries and we just have days of classes. Most students don't have a computer at their apartment. The apartments are not good places to study; there is too much noise. I think this is many students' opinion. Could you please do it for our students?

Parents are the best friends in the world. Everybody would wish to be with their parents all their life because parents are always there when we need them. They are also there when we have problems, and when we need their help and support. They teach us all about life's virtues, dangers, and benefits. They also teach us how to succeed and how to cope with failure. In addition, they show us how to be good children, and all we need to know about life.

The first lesson I remember learning in my life was when I was five years old, my parents taught me how to brush my teeth. I had a small toothbrush, that was my favorite, but I used it anyway, so it didn't clean my teeth very well. They told me, "If you don't clean your teeth very well, you will lose your teeth, and you will be toothless like your dog." My dog was very old, and she had lost all her teeth. I laughed at what my parents said to me. I thought, "When I turn seven years old, I will be like my pet."

When I was six years old, one tooth started to hurt me, so I cried all night. My parents said, "We told you, you must clean your teeth." The next morning, my carried me to the dentist, and the dentist told me how to clean my teeth very well because if I don't, some food will get stuck between my teeth. Then he said that food will mix with bacteria and form dental caries. The dentist took out my bad tooth. That day I learned that cleaning my teeth was very important, and also learned a big lesson. I must pay attention to the advice of my parents. It was my first big lesson.

When I began school at five years old, I learned another important lesson from my parents. I learned some swear words and my parents heard me. They said, "You learn to swear fast, but you don't learn math." One day during break at my school I swore, and a teacher heard me. He carried me to the principal's office, and gave me a note for my parents. The next day, my parents and I went to school. My parents had to talk with the principal. The principal told them, "your son is very spoiled." After my parents talked to me, they said to me, "You must not swear anymore, and you must respect your teachers, classmates and friends." I had very low grades, especially in math. When my dad received my grades, he was very angry. At the time he started to teach me math. I learned math, and my dad and I became good friends. I learned a big lesson; I must respect my teachers, my parents and people in general.

When I was sixteen years old during my senior year, I learned another lesson. I had some problems with some classmates, because they were very spoiled. All the time they liked to cause trouble for others. I had a fight with one of them, and we fought a lot of time. I got a black eye and he got a broken nose. My parents said to me, "Why did you fight?." I didn't answer them, but my parents said, "You are a good boy, but you need to talk to him about the fight and forgive each other. "My response was "Why? He started the fight." My parents said, "Go, son, to talk to him," so I went to his house and talked with him all afternoon. The next day we became good friends and the friendship last until now. It was my third big lesson.

I had some problems before to come here. I needed my visa, but my application was incomplete. I was very sad, and my parents told me, "You don't have faith. You don't pray to my Heavenly Father. If you don't request with faith, God doesn't help you." Since then I started to pray with much faith, and I also started to fast; all things started to be fine, and I finally obtained my visa. It was my fourth big lesson.

I learned many things of these experiences. I became responsible and organized. I also learned to respect my teachers, my parents and my friends. My parents are my best friends and my best teachers. I have learned very much from my parents. I hope some day I can become a good father and a good professional, and a good example for my children.

Dear ELC Executive Council:

My name is Ernesto Gonzalez. I am ELC student. I am in level three. I am writing this for you. It's about the ELC. I am glad to tell you my opinion about the ELC.

I feel so good here in the ELC. I am learning a lot of English. My teachers are nice, they explain so good their classes. When I was moved to level four, some students didn't understand, and they said nothing. I don't why?. Maybe they had have scared. In the end of the classes they ask about the tasks and homework because they didn't understand the class. I wish that changing for the students learn more English.

I want to recommend you that the teachers explain the class, they do to participate to everyone, because we need to practice English. I like my classes in level three, but in the level four I noted that some classmates didn't understand, so their teachers asked them one question; they said, "I don't know." The teacher didn't say anything. I want that this change.

I like ELC, but I think that ELC should change little things like participation of everyone. I don't say with this that the teachers should be b4ehind the student saying them how to study, how to participate, and how to do the homework. The students have a big responsibility. It's to improve our English every day. We need to educate ourselves, too. If you have some questions, I appreciate your opinion. I hope you are fine.

Many people don't know about Korea. Korea is divided into North Korea and South Korea. South Korea is a democratic country, but North Korea is a nonhostile communist country. Therefore South Koreans can not usually go to the North Korea, and North Koreans can not go to South Korea. If I go to North Korea, it is a crime. Sometimes the North Koreaís government will kill people who escape. It is a very sad thing, because we are one country.

Why did Korea divide? During World War II, we were a colony of Japan. When this war was finished, Japan withdrew troops from Korea. At that time Korea had two governments; a democratic and a nonhostile communist. However they didn't want each other. Finally, the U.S.A helped South Korea, and Russia helped North Korea. As a result we built two counties.

At time we were a little bit free; we could go to each otherís countries. However on the morning of June 25,1950, North Korea invaded South Korea. Thus we started the Korean war. This war continued for about 3 years. As a result many people died, and many buildings were destroyed. At that time, many countries (UN) helped South Korea. Nevertheless no one won, so we stopped fighting. Usually Koreans call a truce line "The 38th parallel" because it is at 38 degrees north latitude. It is like the Berlin wall of Germany.

Now Korea has many separated families, because they lived apart from each other in the war a long time ago. They miss each other. Fortunately the government is talking about this problem, and other. Usually Korea wants to unify as one nation as soon as possible. However the unification is still a long ways off.

I live in America now. I'm a Korean. I grew up for 20 year in Korea. I'm a usual Korean citizen, so I can eat Kimchi, rice, and seaweed. I can't wear shoes in the house, and if someone is older than me, usually I can't call him by first name. Therefore, Americaís customs are a little bit different than in my country. Sometimes I'm confused because of the new customs. My opinion is to follow the customs of the new country. However, several people keep their own customs in the new country. I think that is not good. When we don't follow the customs of the new country, we have problems with the new country's people, so we canít harmonize with them.

For example, the smell of Korean food is sometimes very strong. This smell is strange to people other countries. Especially the smell of kimchi is very strong, so some people from other countries donít like that. If Koreans and Americans live together, the American hates Kimchi's smell. Probably they are going to fight when the Korean eats the Kimchi, so they don't like each other. Some people even move to another place because of that problem. I think it is a waste of time and money. Therefore, I think that if we go to new country, we have to follow the new customs.

Another example is that Koreans donít wear shoes in the house, but Americans wear shoes in the house. In Korea, if you wear shoes in the house, it is very rude. However, American has the opposite situation. People from Korea keep customs this here. I can understand this, but some people from other countries don't like customs this. They are displeased. It's not good for all people. Therefore, we have to follow the customs of the new country if you donít want problems.

Also for example, if I get married to an American man, we will live in America. However, if I don't want to follow the American customs, I think we will fight every day. We can never have conjugal harmony. If we have a baby, how do we teach the baby about the customs? I'm going to demand teaching my countryís customs, and my husband is going to demand his country's customs. It is a terrible thing. Maybe our baby will be very confused about that. Therefore, if I follow the new customs, we won't have any problems.

Finally, I think if I move to another country, I have to follow the customs of the new country. If I follow the new customs, I can solve problems like those in the examples above. Therefore, we must follow the customs of the new country.

Dear ELC Executive Council:

Hello. I am an ELC student Sun-Mi. I like here, but sometime I feel not good. I think Buy's ELC is very good place. Everyone is very kind to other people. ELC students can use many things about English studying: tape, book, video and computer. Those are good for us.

Many students use the computer extremely much. I think the computer is not enough to us, and very slow. Sometimes I can not use the internet, so I have to change my seat. I often go BYU library to use the computer, to get the time. ELC has computer, but we often go to there. It's problem. My opinion is just up-grade to computer. And then, probably all ELC students are going to have a good time in the ELC.

Dear ELC Executive Council:

I’m going to write about my opinion and suggestion about the system of ELC, because I really want to tell my opinion to you.

So far, this ELC’s system doesn’t allow us to take different level classes. We have to take same level classes even though you have a higher level than now we staying. I think it will put us back lower level than we had. It is big problem for us. I don’t want to waste my time. Therefore, I want to you change this ELC system.

Next, I want to recommend you have a placement test everytime before start new semester. Because expect very terrible case, we can go next level automatically. Even though someone doesn’t have enough level to go to next level, put the people next level. This is absolutely my opinion. Maybe you think I can’t judge the people. However, I really don’t want to spoil new level. I mean teacher set a teaching standard not smart student, so if I have the person in my class, it is not good for me. Because the person makes the class level lower. It means the class is not new level. Just be changed the classmate. I really don’t want to waste my time. Therefore, please change the system, and have a placement test everytime before new semester.

I don’t say you should change the system right away. However, please think about my opinion and suggestion. Please change the system good way for student. It will make great progress to ELC.

Everyone has different priorities when they choose a place for living. For me the most important is the location, and size of it.

First, I am a businessman. My work consists in travel around of important cities for periods of three or four months. In addition when I live close of my work it is helpful for me. For example, I can safe a lot of time, when I go, and came back from it. Another important thing is to have close of the house different stores, like supermarket, gas station, and mechanic shop.

Second, the size is important for several reasons. One, the price of the house has a direct relation with the size of it. Two, the size depend of how many people are going to live in it. Three, when the bigger is the house, the more expensive are the utilities. So my preference is to have a small house.

In summary, when the people need to choose a place for living. They have different reasons; these reasons are in accord with their necessities, like work, family, and others. In my personal decision work is the priority

If I could change one important thing in my hometown, it will be to plant so many trees next to the sidewalk, and make more parks.

The first reason is that many trees in a town mean, that the town has life. The trees give fresh air, take out the pollution in the air, and exchange it for oxygen. With tree the population of birds will be increase. It is grateful, because the people can listen in the morning their beautiful songs

The second reason is; Trees protect houses and people from the weather. For example, in summer when the days are very hot, is necessary a good shade. For it what better that a shade from a big tree. The people can read books, wash their cars, and play games under it. In the other hand, in winter trees protect from storms, and strong winds. Many trees don’t have leaves in winter, and the sunshiny can thought it, and keep warm the house.

In conclusion, a town without trees the background is so sad. The general feelings of the people are not good. A green town makes happy to the people.

Knowledge is an important word, scientific have been studying it for long time. Some of them said that knowledge is gained from experience only, but others said that without books nobody is able to gained knowledge. In my opinion books are good, but experience is better.

Although in the books we can find a lot of information. So it gives to us knowledge, but this knowledge is not complete. For example, many students learned from books. However when they want to applique their knowledge they can’t, because only theory is not enough for understand.

On the other hand, the books were created from experience. So experience gives knowledge and then men can put this in the books. The development of humanity was only with practice, and experience. It is the most important reason for me. In particular, I did both ways. I learned from books, and real applications about that I have been learning. My specific example is; when I took class about welding I learned a lot. But when I went at the welding shop I couldn’t do well until, I was practicing for a while.

In summary, books help us to find information and process that the other people did. But we must do our own experience and then we can acquire knowledge.

Dear Sick of Advice,

I think you are really in love with each other. However, my opinion is the same as your family and friends. i hope you will read this answer carefully. I think your promise of marriage is too fast. Your family and friends are worrying about it for you. I think they are really worrying about you, and they hope for your happiness from the bottom of their hearts.

I advise you to wait to marry one or two more months, and try to help your family and friends be able to understand you. If in that time your mind doesn't change and you are trying hard for your family, I think they will understand you. However, when you try to persuade them, be careful not to become too excited. You must listen to their opinion carefully and you'd better persuade after that. I hope your family and friends understand you. Good luck!

Dear ELC Executive Council,

I wanted to write you this letter because I am little annoyed with something are happing in the machines ELC. One time, My friend and I went to buy some stuff to eat in the vending machines these are on the first floor of the ELC building.

I deposited the money to get it. However, the stuff was stuck inside of the machine. As a result I had to go to room 103. They gave me back the money of immediate and politeness to try again. I tried about four times at the same vending machine. I had to go to room 103 these four times. As consequence, I decided not to buy anything because I couldn’t get something to eat. I think, these machines should be changed or fixed.

I hope you can resolve this big problem, because it is irritating to the students are studying in this building. I hope receive answer soon. Thank very much for you attention.

Many people contribute to society in different occupations. Most people think that professionals must lead society. But I don’t think so. Especially I think that entertainers make many contributions to society. So here I will introduce a satirical cartoonist who contribute to society as an entertainer.

Thomas Nast, who drew a satirical cartoon, played an important role in President Lincoln’s reelection. In 1864 the war was not going well for the North. Many people blamed Lincoln. They were tired of the war. The democratic candidate, General George B. Meclellan, promised peace at any price. Lincoln didn’t think he had a chance to be reelected. In August he wrote, “It seems exceedingly probable that this administration will not be reelected." But he had not counted on the support of Thomas Nast. Nast drew cartoons showing Mclellan as a man who would compromise with the South. The cartoons were effective, and helped President Lincoln win reelection.

In conclusion, I think that a person’s contribution to society does not depend on the kind of occupation, but on ability of a person who engages in that occupation.

Most people think that human has being many energy sources. However, human has being limited energy sources. So scientists investigate various substitute energy sources. One of them is nuclear power. Nuclear power is convenient to use, but nuclear power also has several hazards which we should be aware of supplying energy by nuclear power. Three of these hazards are as follows;

First, the radioactive material must travel from its place of manufacture to the power station. Although the power stations themselves are solidly built, the containers used for the transport of the materials are not. There are normally only two methods of transport available, namely road or rail. Unfortunately, both of these involve close contact with the general public, since the routes are sure to pass near, even through, heavily populated areas.

Second, there is the problem of waste. All nuclear power stations produce waste that, in most cases, will remain radioactive for thousands of years. It is impossible to make these wastes nonradioactive, and so they must be stored in one of the inconvenient ways that scientists have invented. For example, they may be buried under the ground, dropped into abandoned mines, or sunk in the sea. However, these methods do not solve the problem, since an earthquake could easily crack the containers open.

Third, there is the problem of accidental exposure due to a leak or an explosion at the power station. As with the other two hazards, this is not very likely, so it does not provide a serious objection to the nuclear program. Nevertheless, it can happen. For example, a few years ago there were the exposure of nuclear power in some region of Russia. So many people were infected by the exposure of nuclear power.

Separately, these three types of risks are not a great cause for concern. Taken together, the probability of disaster is extremely high. Therefore, scientists must investigate safe substitute energy sources, and scientists must make sure not to create a hazard in the process of supplying energy that they invent.

I think that telling a polite lie would be like a fairy tale and the Arabian Nights’ entertainments. If people would steadily tell the truth only, life will be bored. For example, a man consults a doctor. After the consulation, doctor knows that he has a serious disease. The doctor has two choice. First is telling the truth. Second is telling a polite lie. In the first case, patient will be live a unhappy life. In the second case, patient will be live a happy life for the rest of life. If you must choose the only one of them, which one do you choose?

Dear ELC Executive Council:
 
My name is Tzu-Chien Wen. This is my second semester in ELC. I think this is a good school and I love it very much. But I still have some opinion to you.
 
In effect, there have four class in the school, Listening/Speaking, Grammar, Reading and Writing. However, some people are good at Grammar, others are good at Listening/Speaking. But, maybe they will in the same level. To my way to thinking, it is not the best way to study. There is no denying that learning the things that students already know are wasting time and money. In brief, I think we should choose the class of level that we need the most. For example, someone is bad at Reading, so he should choose the lower level of this class. On the other hand, if someone is good at some subject, he should choose the higher level in this class, too.
 
After all, the purpose of this school is studying English in the better way. So, please think about my suggestion and I will thanks for your smart change.

Dear ELC Executive Council,
 
I would like to make a comment in borrowing the books. I an the person who like to read books. Sometimes when I want to borrow a book from you, there are nothing. So I try the next day but there is no book which I want to borrow. The reason that this thing happen is because someone already borrowed the book about two weeks ago. It was not a happy memory that you can experience.
However, I just want to give a suggestion about the period of lending a book. I think it should be shorter than 15 days. I think 10 days are enough for lending a book. In my case, I usually read a book in a week. If you change the period, many people may can have a chance to read a book. In other words, whenever I want to read a book, I may go to you.
Please let me know the result weather you accept my opinion or not. Thank you for your efforts for the students in ELC.
